About

Chosen by people who play them

Flipside Exchange is run by players and techs who buy the way we shop ourselves. Everything listed has been through our hands — chosen, worked on, played and photographed here before it goes up.

What we buy

Instruments people actually want to play — a well-set-up student horn, a seventies Japanese guitar, a tube amp with the right speaker in it. We buy on how it plays today, not on the name across the headstock.

What we won't

Anything with a crack we can't stabilise, a neck we can't straighten, or a story we can't verify. If we wouldn't put our name on it, it doesn't go up.

How we price

What it cost us, plus the parts, plus the hours on the bench. Most of the floor sits under $500 because that's where the interesting stuff actually lives.

Buying used, without the gamble

The reason used gear is scary online is that you can't see it, hear it, or ask the seller anything real. So every listing here carries the full photo set of the actual piece, a clip of it being played, the bench notes, and a plain list of what isn't perfect.

Ask us anything before you buy. We answer messages ourselves.

Signed bench notes on every listing
What was checked, what was replaced, what was left alone.
Photographs of the actual unit
Never a catalogue image, never a stand-in.
A clip you can actually judge
Recorded plainly, no processing, one take.
One of each, and a sold archive
Everything we've sold stays up, so you can see the whole history.

Come and see something

We're in St. Albert, just outside Edmonton. Pickup is by appointment so there's time to actually plug in and play. Bring your own cable if you're particular.
